[ubuntu-in] startup logs?

Yes, i did get the startup screen, the problem seems to be with the startup scripts, as it works fine ( with certain
restrictions).. in the Failsafe mode. I did install Avant Window Navigator, and a bunch of Gtk themes, just before that
and added them to startup programs, after which the problem started. removing the startup programs from the 'sessions'
gui box also did not help.. clearly, the disabling of the 'startup scripts', as mentioned in the 'Failsafe GNOME' mode is not
that of the startup programs...
so i need to know where exactly those startup scripts are (/etc/rc.local ???) and if there are any logs for it...

my best guess, the AWN must have messed up bonobo..
(my system freezes display when the startup shows that nautilus is loading, and in the failsafe mode, error message saying 
gnome-settings-daemon could not start because of some bonobo error... )

dmesg also didn't help earlier...

Do you get the login screen? Freeze occurs after that or before?
When did it start occuring? Any changes before this started, that
you suspect of?
