Hi

Am suffering from some modem blues -

Have a BSNL issue Huawei IFWT phone with a serial to USB modem (and
serial to serial )

The dmesg shows the thingy (modem) as follows:
[17179583.832000] usbcore: registered new driver usbserial
[17179583.832000] drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support
registered for generic
[17179583.832000] usbcore: registered new driver usbserial_generic
[17179583.832000] drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core
[17179583.836000] drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support
registered for pl2303
[17179583.836000] pl2303 3-1:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
[17179583.836000] usb 3-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[17179583.836000] usbcore: registered new driver pl2303
[17179583.836000] drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c: Prolific PL2303 USB to
serial adaptor driver

So its kind of recognized and stuff like that

Then following some help from the linmodems discussion list attempt to
set it up and use wvdial and use
sudo wvdialconf wvtest

and this is the result

ram at ram-t60:~$ sudo wvdialconf wvtest
Editing `wvtest'.

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wiki/?WvDial

If you still have problems, send mail to <wvdial-list at lists.nit.ca>.
ram at ram-t60:~$

thanks
