In both Dapper and Edgy, OpenOffice never worked for me. It always
crashes with this message:

$ oowriter

** (process:29166): WARNING **: Unknown error forking main binary /
abnormal early exit ...

This is not a big problem for me because I use LyX (a GUI front-end
to LaTeX) for word processing and GNUmeric for spreadsheets. For
presentations, I use the gorgeous LaTeX-beamer class with LyX.

However, if I did not know of these alternatives, then I would be
very disappointed with Dapper and Edgy; seeing OpenOffice crash like
this is really a "show stopper" for most anyone.

FYI, my machine is:

$ uname -a
Linux yantram 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Tue Dec 5 22:28:26 UTC 2006
i686 GNU/Linux
