[ubuntu-in] Hindi Again

Hi

Am running Ubuntu 7.04 with the following packages installed:

aspell-hi
language-pack-gnome-hi
language-pack-gnome-hi-base
language-pack-hi
language-pack-hi-base
language-support-hi
openoffice.org-help-hi-in
openoffice.org-l10n-hi-in
scim-tables-additional
ttf-devanagari-fonts

i can log on into a hindi interface, i can change the language of open 
office to hindi and get all the menu's in hindi

but how do i type in hindi. Am assuming that all the necessary packages 
have been installed.

Then i checked the gnome keyboard indicator preferences and tried to see 
if hindi keyboard could be added there - but there are half a dozen 
indian languages but no *hindi*

so whats the problem and how can i resolve it.
