was searching and found this.. http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com/msg01053.html
this thread goes on to some other accounting package called 'avsap'...

Now, isn't one supposed to google a bit, or read thru our indexed archives before posting some question here??

I'm not sure what tally does... but think 'gnucash' is an alternative, it's a small business financial accounting software, similar to quicken, which comes for windows...

For some reason, tallysolutions is not pushing it. But you can download
a trial version at your site. But is neither open source nor free.

There is some merit in using an Indian accounting solution, but sadly,
not many options.

Tally for Windows and Tally for linux run OK in Ubuntu, though the
former involves some tricky key reassignment which I have not yet
managed to do.

so there is tally for linux

any users
user reviews

Another package native to Linux is Kalculate, but no idea how it is.

heard of that - some claim about being the first accounting package or
some such !!

thanks
