Hi folks,
I'd like to announce a newsgroup mailing list I've set up called ossdev-ireland. This is intended to be a place for OSS developers to publish ideas, events, outcomes of code jams, questions, etc that may be of interest across the FOSS development community. I've a strong interest in Ubuntu and am working on some Ubuntu related bugs at the moment so I'd expect to see a lot of our favourite O.S. feature over on the list over time.
To highlight an example of things going across domains, I was recently working on a Ruby app with QT4 and the biggest problem I had was the .deb packaging. This brings a Ruby aspect, a KDE/Linux aspect and a Debian/Ubuntu aspect. And some of the most interesting advice I got regarding the app when developing was from Python people! So I really feel like it could be a lot of fun to bring all these things together in one melting pot.
I'd encourage anyone interested in giving the OSS development community a bit more cohesion across the various programming languages to sign up to ossdev-ireland. The group itself is online at http://groups.google.com/group/ossdev-ireland and I've an Open Letter at http://short.ie/ossdevintro
You don't have to be a developer to join in on the discussion, though it is intended to be a development focussed list as opposed to a user focussed list.
Any feedback/suggestions on anything to do with this topic are most welcome and feel free to email me off list if you prefer.
Ciao ciao,
Dec
