a) Linux is mostly used by users that know and care about their system 
security
b) unfortunately but truly Linux is still a minority desktop OS
c) Linux is very diverse (this is not obvious but is very important)
d) open source developers tend to take it very seriously when a security 
vulnerability exists in their code
