<div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Hi all,<br><br></div>As per the previous email [0], I now announce the starting of the planning phase/stage for Ubuntu GNOME Wily Werewolf Cycle (15.10).<br><br></div>In this email, I will explain the differences between an internal feedback from the leaders/drivers of the sub-teams, core members, active members, newcomers of this community and between the feedback of our users.<br><br></div><div><u><b>Introduction:</b></u><br></div><div>Ubuntu GNOME consists of:<br><ol><li>A Distribution (GNU/Linux) which is an official flavour of Ubuntu - Technical Side.<br></li><li>A Community/Team (people) [1] who are volunteers, working together from different part of the world (using the Internet) to provide Ubuntu GNOME as we all know it - Human or Non-Technical Side. <br></li></ol></div><div><br></div><u><b>Internal Feedback:</b></u><br></div>Within Ubuntu GNOME Community, these are the types of people:<br><ol><li>Leaders: Tim is the co-founder, developer-lead and the highest authority within this project. Ali (me) is the community-lead and the 2nd in charge.</li><li>Sub-Teams Leaders: Ubuntu GNOME had sub-teams [2] for a while now. Each sub-team has a driver.</li><li>Core-members: Those who have proven record  of contributions and achievements. They're active more often than the rest.<br></li><li>Members: Those who contribute to Ubuntu GNOME in different areas.</li><li>Newcomers.</li></ol><p>Whatever feedback will come from the above 5 types, this is called: Internal Feedback.</p><p>Previously, I have created these 2 pages:</p><ul><li><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/CycleAssessment">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/CycleAssessment</a></li><li><a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/CycleAssessment/UtopicUnicorn">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGNOME/CycleAssessment/UtopicUnicorn</a></li></ul><p>These are examples of 'Internal Feedback' :)</p><p>For many reasons, we didn't get the best out of the internal feedback previously. Hopefully now and in the future, we shall learn from our mistakes and improve ourselves by taking this more seriously.<br></p><p><br></p><p><u><b>Users' Feedback:</b></u><br></p><p>Starting from this cycle (15.10), we shall ask our users for feedback at the beginning of each cycle. <br></p><p>Our uses are the people who are using Ubuntu GNOME. After all, we're doing what we do for them. They are definitely a priority but pleasing them all is a way to failure so you all need to understand this as a fact. We do our best to please the majority but we can't make everyone happy. Nothing is prefect.</p><p>This cycle (15.10), we have asked our users to share their feedback and opinion about 14.04 LTS and 15.04 [3]. They did share their opinion [4] and I was very happy to see 500 of them did just that. Very amazing and thanks, one more time, for everyone who took the time and sent his/her feedback. Very impressive if you ask me.</p><p><br></p><p><u><b>Internal Feedback VS Users' Feedback</b></u></p><ol><li><b>Internal Feedback</b> refers to what we have done, as a team, during a previous cycle. <b>Users' Feedback</b> refers to what our users have experienced with Ubuntu GNOME previous releases (latest and LTS).</li><li><b>Internal Feedback</b> means the mistakes we have done, things we have failed to do, things we suppose to do, achievements to be proud of, etc. Simply, an internal report of what we have done (good or bad) within the previous 6-month (AKA Cycle). Which means, it's more focused on the community rather than the system itself. <i><b>While</b></i> <b>Users' Feedback</b> means everything related to the system itself as those who are using Ubuntu GNOME would care less about who is the leader of A sub-team and who is the member of B sub-team. What they usefully care about is what they have voted for [4].</li><li><b>Internal Feedback</b> is a chance for the team/community to learn from the mistakes and improve the areas that need improvements, planning and management and how to keep this team/community as good as possible with less problems .. in short, maintain a healthy environment for everyone to work together, voluntary, and enjoy at the same time. <b>Users' Feedback</b> is a great chance to learn directly from the users (of Ubuntu GNOME) of how they would like Ubuntu GNOME to be so they will/can enjoy it to the maximum possible level.</li><li>Both types of feedback are essential and needed, with each and every cycle. You can't do one and ignore the other. Both complete each other.<br></li><li><b>Internal Feedback</b> is what Ubuntu GNOME community/team should do or be like. <b>Users' Feedback</b> is what Ubuntu GNOME distribution should be/like.<br></li></ol><p>Again, pleasing everyone is <b>NOT</b> possible.<br></p><br><u><b>Summary:<br></b></u></div><ul><li>We do have the Users' Feedback now. It is time to get the Internal Feedback and move forward.</li><li>A good example of what is required now is Tim's reply [5].</li
