Unity Next is based on QML (Qt) which is an independent project from
KDE.
Indeed the various flavours exist to provide a non-default Ubuntu
experience. It's really too early to say exactly what will happen
from a technical perspective, but I would expect whatever happens to
be largely transparent to the end-users of Ubuntu GNOME.

We will evaluate the options over time, In the short term (13.10),
we can stick with X if need be. Long term the future of KDE and
GNOME is moving towards wayland, and I expect that is what we will
use eventually.

After the annoucement from Ubuntu saying MIR
will be default on 13.10, I think the most important
question is what is gonna happen to Ubuntu GNOME flavour ? I
guess Ubuntu GNOME developers are working hard on that but
as a user I really would like to have their opinion on
Ubuntu GNOME future.
