Hi,
A week ago, I installed MATE desktop environment on my Ubuntu 14.04.03 LTS
and removed unity and ubuntu-desktop. I also wanted to install Gnome DE and
so began my adventure.
Things I did:
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop
Logging into GNOME just gave me a stuck screen with no mouse or keyboard
working. Some more research led me to completely removing
ubuntu-gnome-desktop and gnome-shell, and adding gnome3 staging and gnome3
repo and performing a dist-upgrade.
Again, I got the same result. I added Ricotz (Don't remember the name)
testing repo and dist-upgrading again.
I was greeted with the same stuck screen which came up with a popup message
to upgrade to 15.04 with mouse, keyboard etc working to select the options
in the popup.
I checked and saw that I did not have mutter.
Insatlled mutter and I am still stuck on the same popup message which has a
nicer look, possibly due to mutter.
I really want to test GNOME but just cannot get it running on my machine.
Any help would be appreciated.
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I thought I should give
it a try.
Looking forward to a positive reply
Thanks
Akshit
