light-weight gnome

When I say light-weight, I mean only the minimal software (necessary
software for run the system).
So far as I googled, only gentoo distribution provides gnome-light package.
I though it will be a good idea ... :(
MATE is created by GTK+2, so it can not provide new feature of GTK+3.
