Software Center crashes and the gnome3 PPA

Ubuntu Software Center crashes on startup for me and many other people
due to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/1211887

This bug is fixed in webkit 2.3.2-1ubuntu4 for trusty and in webkit
1.10.2-0ubuntu3 from saucy-proposed.

However Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 users who have the gnome3-team/gnome3 PPA
enabled will not receive this bugfix, because that PPA contains webkit
2.0.4-1ubuntu1~saucy3, which has a higher version number than the one in
saucy-proposed.


What should I do to help get this fixed for Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 users?

I could try to extract the patch from 2.3.2-1ubuntu4 and try to apply it
to 2.0.4-1ubuntu1~saucy3, then see if it fixes Software Center crashes
for me.  Do the PPA maintainers use a VCS, or should I just apt-get
source?  Should I add a bug task for ubuntu-gnome to LP #1211887?
