Dumb question

I'm really displaying my stupidity here, but what I call the dash only displays apps or functions after typing something.
That is, if I only click on the upper left "hot" corner I see the dash where I can begin typing, the quick launch menu on the left side, and the workspace switcher on the right.
Eerm, let me grab a screenshot and try to show you. I don't want to file a bug if I'm just being thick between the ears :^(

PS: Expect an update to ubiquity anyway, so there will be a rebuild!
