Résolution d'écran sur un portable

Bonsoir,

Je viens d'offrir un HP Pavilion dv5234ea à ma femme. J'ai viré W$ pour y 
installer Kubuntu 6.06. Tout c'est bien passé, mais je ne peux changer la 
résolution d'écran : je n'ai pas d'autre choix que 1024*768 alors qu'il 
faudrait 1280*800.

J'ai demandé à Google : pas de réponse correspondante en français.

J'ai tenté un dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg : ça n'a rien changé.

Je ne comprends pas pourquoi xorg.conf semble bien paramètré, alors que 
Paramètres du système/Affichage ne me propose que 1024*768.

Qui saurait m'expliquer ?
