Hola,
segun tu menu.ls tenemos:

lo q dice q estas arrancando desde el disco 0 (hd0,) y partición 1 (,1).
Para saber que estás en la partición correcta, así como el disco, haz
un "fdisk -l" como root.
Te debe salir algo así:
$ sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 160 GB, 160039272960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 5759 46259136 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 5760 12599 54934267 83 Linux

en mi casi el disco hd0 es un scassi (sda) y está en la partición 1
(sda1).
Te has de fijar donde tienes el signo * de la columna de boot, lo cual
te indica desde que partición arranca.
Si este no es tu error, intenta ponernos el error que te devuelve, ya
que lo has explicado de forma muy general.
