Problema con grub y Dapper Drake Flight CD3

Muy buenas a toda la lista, tengo un pequeño problema con mi nueva
instalación de Ubuntu Dapper. Instalé desde cero en una partición que tenía
libre, tengo Window$ 2000 (por culpa de mi scaner paralelo) y en la otra
parte siempre voy probando distintos sabores de GNU Linux, pero ahora me he
quedado por completo con Ubuntu. El tema es que me descargué el Flight CD3 y
la primera vez que lo instalé cuando me pidió actualizar se me murió el
servidor gráfico, volví a instalar controlando en que momento era que se
moría (ya que lo había dejado actualizando mientras iba al trabajo) y esta
vez no pasó nada de eso, pero en esa oportunidad quedaba todo el escritorio
como con pedazos de las ventanas que iba abriendo, eso se ha ido
solucionando a medida que se actualizaba hasta el punto que ahora solo pasa
en contadas ocasiones. Una de las cosas que encontré fue que mi source list
estaba todo comentado (#) así que cuando quería actualizar me tiraba
mensajes de error, por las dudas se me dio por revisar y fue simplemente
sacarle las almohadillas, esto lo digo por si a alguien le llega a pasar.
Pero bueno, el tema de mi problema ahora es que cuando el grub se inicia, o
sea, cuando está booteando, no me aparece el menú, es como que se queda la
pantalla en negro con el prompt, pero si corren los segundos y si con las
flechas del teclado me desplazo, llego a iniciar el sistema operativo que
quiero, pero no veo ese menú; por las dudas copio y pego el contenido de mi
archivo menu.lst:
