And to rub more salt to Gnome3, if you missed it, Linus Torvalds thinks it's

IMO Unity and Gnome3 are fairly similar, if you don't like one, you most
likely won't like the other. In my case, 3D unity was causing slow
performance and graphical glitches, while unity-2d works absolutely
perfectly for me (at least on 11.10). Enjoy
