Linux4Afrika goes Egypt?

Hello everybody,

I'm sorry for this long delay - I was on holidays for a couple of days
just to "recharging my batteries"! ;-)

There are good news from Sekem:
The first little but important step is done: We succeeded in convincing
the general manager and the two leading IT administrators of using open
source! :-) They are very interested in Linux and want to know more
about it.

As I suggested, this could be the next step: There are one or two
computer rooms in Sekem's educational center. We will try to migrate
these rooms to open source software - both the clients and a little server.
The aim is to build up a little "open source oasis" which will be the
place where

1.
IT administrators and users can make their first experiences with Linux
and open source

2.
trainings, presentations and workshops about Linux and open source can
take place.

The server will be a donation of Dieter: An Intel Atom N270 with 2 GB
RAM, an Intel D945GCLF2 Mainboard and a 300 GB SATA hard disk.

Unfortunately the clients are very weak: Something less than 1-GHz-CPU
and little memory. This is why I think about an LTSP solution or
something similar - we will see.

And now it's almost sure that I will visit Egypt! :-) The current plan
is that I stay for about six weeks, probably from Tuesday, 25.10.2010 up
to Saturday, 04.12.2010. So it would be an honour for me to meet some of
you! :-)

Many greets from rainy Germany
Stephan

P.S.: If much of you are not interested in this Sekem stuff I suggest to
make an own mailinglist where the people who are interested can join.
What do you think about this?
