Hello all! I'm the music director and technologist extraordinaire here at
my school. I have been using Ubuntu and Linux at my school since 2011. My
desk in my office is running Ubuntu 14.04 on an HP z420 workstation with
dual monitors. The computer cart of 35 HP 6455b laptops in my classroom are
running Edubuntu 12.04. I set up a number of other computer carts to run
Edubuntu 12.04 and a small desktop computer lab. We use LanSchool to
monitor students, but I was using Epoptes for a short time until I realized
it was not effective for wireless clients. I create disk images with
Clonezilla and DRBL for deployment and have written a number of
bash scripts that help me to set up student machines more efficiently that
I run both locally and over the network via SSH.

I have really enjoyed learning on my own about Linux, Ubuntu, and open
source software. I have been trying to get away from proprietary software
as much as possible. I have been migrating my arrangements from Finale 2011
to MuseScore 2.0 and am really liking the new MuseScore! I try to
contribute to the community by posting on forums such as AskUbuntu.

I strongly believe that Linux and open source software can and should be
the go-to solution for public education. I believe that it can be a very
mutually beneficial relationship. I am part of the largest public school
system in the United States and we through so much money into proprietary
solutions from Microsoft, Norton, SMART, Lenovo, and others. I know that
not all open source solutions are ready to replace all proprietary
solutions, but I believe that strong investments can change that quickly.

I am currently exploring custom unattended installs and have run into a few
roadblocks. See my post on AskUbuntu:
