Congratulations on finding Ubuntu and putting some older computers to
use.
As Lyz suggested I would recommend trying to contact some of your LoCo
team members are they are going to be close to you and able to assist
in-person if needed.
It appears you had some questions about how much ram your computer had
and this should be easy to find. I have included to screen shots that
should help you.
In the upper right hand corner click the 'power' icon and select about
this computer
You should then see a dialog box like the one below. The yellow
hi-lighted area is your memory.
