I think the best places to ask for general Ubuntu support are
http://ubuntuforums.org/ and http://askubuntu.com/help, both let you search
through previous questions/topics so you may find your questions have
already been asked and answered before.
If your online courses just use the web with Flash and/or Java you should
be OK with Ubuntu, somewhere on the course providers website they should
have a "computer requirements" page outlining what's needed? Don't be
surprised not to see Ubuntu listed on that page, look at the components
needed.
