Please try this, and let me know if it helps.
Edit and add to: /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf (Note, my
experience is with 11.04. In 10.10, lts.conf or equivalent may still
be elsewhere. But the principe stands.)
## SSH compression between LTSP client and server
NETWORK_COMPRESSION = True
I have encountered a minor bug or two which I've managed to work
around, but on the whole the performance improvement is very
noticeable. Almost like working on Terminal Server. ;-)
I haven't had any feedback from the list about this, so I really hope
you do test and let us know.
