I'd like to offer an update on the Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and Ubuntu 9.10
(Karmic) EC2 releases.
As part of the grand plan, we're building daily images of both Jaunty
and Karmic now. (Naturally, daily Jaunty image builds will cease once we
release it).
They are being published at
http://ec2-images.ubuntu.com/
These are filesystem images that can be used as input to ec2-bundle-vol
or similar tools, so that you can upload them to EC2 or your own Ubuntu
Enterprise Cloud (UEC).
For every alpha, beta, release candidate and final release of Karmic
(and later releases), we will publish these images to Amazon, and
announce the corresponding AMI IDs. The daily builds will generally not
be made available in this way.
We are currently experiencing some issues with the daily images on
Amazon EC2, particularly in the new us-east-1d availability zone. We
have yet to determine where the problem lies, but we're working hard on
this.
This is currently a blocker for putting out the Jaunty release.
So, to be perfectly clear, the following is not an official release.
It's simply one of the daily builds that was pushed to Amazon EC2 for
testing, and is as such not production ready. If you are comfortable
with this, and you're interested in helping with testing the images,
feel free to play around with this AMI:
ami-bbf514d2
It's an up-to-date Jaunty image and it uses a 2.6.28 kernel/ramdisk.
Please report any issues with the images against the ubuntu-on-ec2
project on Launchpad. You can do so at this URL:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-on-ec2/+filebug
Again, this is NOT ready for production use. Also, it will disappear
once we've identifed and fixed the aforementioned problems. It will of
course be replaced by a more appropriate release shortly thereafter, but
please do not rely on this AMI id to stick around for more than a few
days.
On behalf of the Ubuntu on EC2 team, I'd like to thank you for your
patience and your help in testing the images.
