If you need a desktop environment that boots quickly, you can convert a
small image to run from an EBS volume by following the procedure here:

Once that's complete, if you want to avoid the manual steps to get your
desktop running, you can use a script to get a desktop booting in about 30
seconds.

Get aws from:

http://timkay.com/aws/

Then use this script to start your pivoted VM:

http://aronahl-code.s3.amazonaws.com/startWorkStation.py
