Hi :)

I think all of us so far have agreed to use "applications" instead of "apps". Alberto and i swapped places a bit wrt the importance of this but it seems like we kinda agree about preferring "applications" too.

However just because people here have agreed doesn't affect people who are not in the team and just pop in to do quick edits. Also if any of us are in a hurry then we might accidentally use the shorter name and intend to come back to correct it later. So anyone correcting such accidental uses in the future will be doing us all a bit of a favour.
Regards from

Tom :)

On 27 February 2015 at 10:19, Hannie Dumoleyn <lafeber-dumoleyn2@zonnet.nl> wrote:

Op 26-02-15 om 18:06 schreef Kevin Godby:
Having read all your reactions I also want to give my opinion on this. I
agree with Stephen that there is a difference between applications (any
program on our desktop/laptop) and apps (small programs written for
smartphones and tablets). It is a pity that people start using these words
interchangeably, it impoverishes a language.
Since the Ubuntu documentation is written for desktop users, I personally
would prefer to only use the word "application". But if the team think it is
ok to use both words interchangeably, I will not insist.
I'd suggest using 'applications' as 'apps' started out as an informal
term. If, however, 'apps' is used in the UI, then you should use it so
the documentation and UI matches.
Ok, I did some testing. I entered the word "application" in the gui module "Unity", see [1]. There were 10 results, e.g.
Do you want to force the application to exit
Key to start the Launcher Application Switcher
Scroll Inactive Icon to Focus Application
So, this is also a good argument to go for the word "Application" in Ubuntu docs.
I also disagree with Alberto's statement "It just doesn't matter". To me it matters and I hope to other team members too.
So, my final question is: should I change the word app to application wherever I find it in Vivid?
