Hi all!

There will be an Ubuntu Desktop Guide also for 18.04. :) A preview
version - translations will be completed - is available at
<https://help.ubuntu.com/dev/ubuntu-help/>. Just like in 17.10, and
since Ubuntu now is based on GNOME shell, it consists to more than 90%
of pages from GNOME Help, more exactly these repositories:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-user-docs

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-getting-started-docs

So maintaining the desktop guide is to a large extent equivalent to
getting involved in the upstream GNOME Help project. AFAIK there are not
so many contributors yet from the Ubuntu community. I have made a few
suggestions which have been committed, and so has Hannie.

We still make use of the ubuntu-docs repository, which includes Ubuntu
specific pages and tools for building the HTML version of the guide.

As regards the HTML version published on the web, Doug and I have
succeeded in addressing the long-standing
<https://launchpad.net/bugs/1532537>. As explained in the footer of the
pages, it's now easier to browse the guide in the desired display
language. Also the server guide for 18.04 will be published with that
improvement.

Needless to say, more contributors are welcome, both for participating
upstream and for giving the Ubuntu specific part of the guide some more
love. Unfortunately our docs about how to get started is severely
outdated due to the past year's changes. That will be addressed during
the next cycle.

In the meantime, if you are interested in helping out, please let us
know, and somehow we'll provide the guidance needed.
