Ok, I did some testing. I entered the word "application" in the gui 
module "Unity", see [1]. There were 10 results, e.g.
Do you want to force the application to exit
Key to start the Launcher Application Switcher
Scroll Inactive Icon to Focus Application
So, this is also a good argument to go for the word "Application" in 
Ubuntu docs.
I also disagree with Alberto's statement "It just doesn't matter". To me 
it matters and I hope to other team members too.
So, my final question is: should I change the word app to application 
wherever I find it in Vivid?
