[desktop] Numeric keypad on by default

Hi :)
Ubuntu is not alone in ignoring the Bios setting.  The difference is that
there appears to be an Ubuntu Documentation page that might help me fix the
problem in Ubuntu.  I'll try to test-drive the pages tomorrow, if i get a
chance and if i remember.
