Collect screenshots bash script

If it is desired that this script be used to replace the ones that I did and to be available for the localized (other languages) screenshots then please be aware that there is a day, maybe two at most to finalize it.

We are already past documentation string freeze and final freeze is October 3rd. The regions, at least the ones that bother to do it, need time to do the work and submit their screenshots.

Hey John,

Please do send it via email. The .txt extension is ok; I'll just rename it while I'm trying it out.

John,

The updated script is ready for you to test. How would you like me to send it to you? I could email it to you with a .txt extension in case your email server objects to .sh file attachments.

I'm happy to accept any feedback you have after you've run it.

Hey John,

I'm John too, and if you would like, I'll test out the script on my hardware. :-) I can report results too.

Doug,

I just wanted to give you an update. Things are progressing well with the script. I've addressed the issues you raised about the dodgey if statement and workspaces being off by default. I've also made some structural changes to the way the script runs and added more comments, so hopefully it'll be easier to maintain in future.

I'm doing the dev work in a VM but when it's complete I'll test it on hardware as well . I'll also test it against the 13.10 beta in a VM.

I'll let you know if any problems arise.

Addendum:

Workspaces are now (and also in 13.04) disabled by default:

The screen shot that ends up being “unity-windows.png” needs to be done with workspaces enabled and the cursor movement needs to be compensated for the different number of buttons on the launcher bar thingy.

Similarly for the screen shot that ends up being “unity-workspace-intro.png”.

Opinion: Myself, I wouldn’t bother with the script. I would just take the screens shots, making sure they represent the context in which they are used, and manipulate them manually. There are only 13. However, I suppose potential payback for the script on a per cycle basis would come from the other language regions doing language specific screen shots. I do not know how many regions do that, I only know we do not do it for the other languages on help.ubuntu.com <http://help.ubuntu.com/>

Hi,

The files are in the figures sub-directory in the C sub-directory in the ubuntu-help sub-directory of the project source:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-doc/ubuntu-docs/saucy/files/head:/ubuntu-help/C/figures/

color-average.png 300X100 (No need to update each cycle)

color-camera.png 300X202 (No need to update each cycle)

color-display.png 300X202 (No need to update each cycle)

color-printer.png 300X202 (No need to update each cycle)

color-profile-default.png 451X114 (No need to update each cycle)

color-space.png 400X155 (No need to update each cycle)

nautilus-icons.png 250X110 (?)

nautilus.png 230X125 Yes.

printing-select.png 282X126 (?)

ubuntu-logo.png 32X32 (No need to update each cycle)

ubuntu-quantal.jpg 250X200 (is there a ubuntu-saucy.jpg?)

unity-appmenu-intro.png 249X200 yes

unity-dash-intro.png 250X200 <- not in script. Needed, yes.

unity-dash.png 525X227 yes

unity-dash-sample.png 230X130 yes

unity-exit.png 249X200 yes (script will do 250X200)

unity-launcher-apps.png 65X123 yes <- Under a conditional in the script. As far as I can tell the condition will never be true.

unity-launcher-intro.png 250X200 yes

unity-launcher.png 65X180 yes <- Under a conditional in the script. As far as I can tell the condition will never be true.

unity-overview.png 768X576 yes

unity.png 250X188 yes, but size indicates unity2.png

unity-windows.png 400X300 yes

unity-workspace-intro.png 250X200 yes

unity2.png ? not in source code. Does it get renamed (manually) to unity.png and overlay the one that the scripts gets? (which would then be the correct size)?

Benjamin Kerensa requested help with getting the "collect screenshots" bash script working. I've downloaded and run the script and while some errors are generated, a number of screenshots are produced.

Is someone able to tell me where to look to find the desired set of screenshots so that I can be sure I've got the script working correctly?
