Bazaar not working on precise

Hi Doc team,

I need some help making bzr work.  I was following along the Getting 
Started manual.

john at kotux:~$ bzr branch lp:ubuntu-doc
bzr: ERROR: Permission denied: "Cannot create 'bzr'. Only Bazaar 
branches are allowed."

Why did this happen, and how can I fix this?  I had set up my gpg and 
ssh keys and such, but it's not branching. :-(
