made me think of the official desktop guide. As far as I know - please
correct me if I'm wrong - it does not include anything about installing
and updating programs. It should.

There are stuff already written that we could 'steal' from. You can
access them from a terminal window:

  yelp help:software-center

  yelp help:update-manager

Wouldn't it be a good idea to write a couple of pages about this for
ubuntu-docs?
