Ubuntu Documentation - Getting Started

Hi :)
I think it is a shame to lose the history but it probably allows a lot to get decluttered and work faster and more smoothly.

If there were some easy way to automatically get all the contributers names into a list at the end of the document that might be good but i think a lot of people have chose on-line names specifically for editing that probably weren't meant to be seen by polite society.  There have been quite a few that made me chuckle! :)

However my own edits tend to have been quite trivial, either while i was learning or experimenting with some things or while taking out spam.  So i am not as attached to most of my history as others might be.  Some people have put tons of work in and only a few of us get to appreciate that by looking at the history of a few pages.

So, i don't mind losing my own history but others maybe might.  However that is fairly normal in OpenSource.  We keep moving on and enjoy the benefits that re-writes and de-cluttering give us.  MS keep trying to support legacy systems but as a result they tend to be over heavy and bloated and slow and oddly they also abandon legacy set-ups faster through trying to hang onto them too much.  Faster&lighter is one of the main reasons why i preferred OpenSource
Regards from
Tom :)
