mini-war on a wiki page

I noted this page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnvironmentVariables apparently
has some back-forth editing with people not agreeing with each other. Now,
I could step in and correct it to the best of my knowledge, but I don't
want to step into a known war zone. Specifically if you look at the
Persistent environment variables section, there are blanket statements in
the negative ("Not recommended") which are over statements which say "this
is the best choice". Now, I don't have a .pam_environment file so I am
wondering if that was some sort of an end-case situation for that one user.
I will certainly be willing to step in to do the work, but maybe someone in
charge here (:-) can let me know that is the right thing to do. Reply off
list as I haven't subscribed.
