Boot Loader Fails to Install

Hi,
I recommend Ubuntu to my customers because I believe in and use your
product. Over the past couple of days, I've encountered problems
installing the system on a Dell Dimension 3000. Both version 10.04 and
version 10.10 fail to install the boot loader. I'm downloading the
official versions from the Ubuntu home page. When I do the md5sum check
on the iso download, I find no problems. When I check the burned CD
using your Disc check, I find no problems.
Yet whenever I try to install the program, I receive a boot loader
failed to install error message at the end of the installation. My
customer's hardware appears to be fine. He has a 160 GB HDD and 2 GB of
RAM. The hard drive passes both the quick and the extended hard drive
tests.
Could you give me a hint as to what the problem might be? Is there a bug
in your installation program? I've tried installing with and without
partitioning.
In the 10.04 installation, I receive a 'corrupt or out of date package'
error message, even though I downloaded it from your Web site. Then, I
get a 'boot loader failed to install' error message.
So. today, I downloaded and burned version 10.10. When my customer tried
to install your program. He received 'a boot loader failed to install'
error.
Could something in the Dell Dimension 3000 make it incompatible with Ubuntu?
I would appreciate any advice that you can give me.
Sandy
