For the contents of the "main", "universe", and "restricted"
components, a best effort is made that there be no restrictions on use
for any purpose or redistribution of unmodified contents. Some items
may be covered by trademark restrictions, depending on your
jurisdiction and intended use. Note that the contents of the
"restricted" component may limit modification, and the contents of all
components may limit distribution of modified versions under certain
conditions. For the contents of the "multiverse" component, a best
effort is made that there be no restrictions on distribution of
unmodified sources, but there may be restrictions on modifications,
use for some purposes, etc.
A separated statement of copyright and licensing for each version
of each package is available from http://changelogs.ubuntu.com,
although this may require some navigation to collect all values. As
all installations must necessarily cary ony a subset of available
pacakages, some of these licenses will not apply.
The above does not represent an authoritative statement, and is
intended only as guidance to help develop an understanding of the
licensing of Ubuntu through further investigation.
