Working on a style guide

It depends on how suitable the current style guide is for its target
audience (us, new contributors, etc). We should start by defining
precisely what the style guide should be and what it should achieve.
Once we know what the aims of the document are, then we can see whether
the old material is compatible with those aims or not.
So, what exactly do people expect from a style guide? What questions are
people likely to have about style, and what should people know about our
style?
