Kim, I'm not a regular on this list and can't tell you about the
Mentoring program.

As you use Linux, you'll probably find areas of special interest and
develop some expertise.  You could then help out with the Wiki pages for
these topics.  For example, my day job is supporting HP All-in-One
printers (not on Linux :( ) and so I know a lot about the various
models. I was then able to update the Community Wiki page with model
support information. 

If you're interested in how wikis work, you could install the MoinMoin
wiki (the Ubuntu wiki is a MoinMoin wiki) on your own computer.
