I don't think that the entire list needs to be organised by area (a lot
of people contribute to more than one area), although it would
definitely be useful to have a contact for each of the specific areas as
you say. This would just be someone who is familiar with that area and
knows what direction it's going in.

Splitting into students and committers is a bit artificial I think. I'd
be happy just to see an alphabetised list.

Some information for people who want to contribute would also be great,
and it doesn't need to be much more than a sentence with a link to our
wiki page.
