How to create an account to SIMPLE (ekiga.net) to allow text chat
between Pidgin and Ekiga:

First register an account on http://ekiga.net (wait for the e-mail
confirmation), or use your existing account.

Accounts->Add/Edit->Add

Basic table:
Protocol:SIMPLE
Screen name:Username on ekiga.net
Server:ekiga.net
Password:password on ekiga.net
Local alias:Username

Advanced table:
Publish status: on
Connect port:5060
Use UDP:on
left the rest empty

For good interoperability between Pidgin and Ekiga:
Go to Tools->Preferences->Conversation
Turn "Notify buddies that you are typing to them" OFF
