installing on Dell notebook with existing Windows XP

Hi
I burned the desktop CD and got to a DOS command line with no further information on what to do.
Where is the documentation for installing Ubuntu? I really just want to use Ubuntu, I do not want to learn much about low-level details.
Please help.
