The RubyOnRails page is about installing Rails, which comes with it's
own built in web server suitable for development use. When you want to
deploy a rails application to production you'll want to use a web server
(such as apache or lighttpd) which can use FCGI (Fast CGI) as it's much
faster (duh) and scales better.
That said I know nothing about the necessary magic invocations to get it
to work or what the advantages of apache vs lighttpd are.Just that it's
desirable.
