In editing https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firewire I keep hitting the
fact that I barely know what I'm talking about! But someone needs to
write it...

Could someone tell me, when I plug my video camera into firewire udev
creates an 'x' to interface with the hardware. That 'x' is
either /dev/dv1394 or /dev/raw1394. But are they called? I've seen them
called devices, nodes, and device nodes. What's the real or preferred
term? It's time for me to be consistent.
