help with root

Thanks to you and the others who replied. Unfortunately seems i've a
problem with my system.

When i try to activate: Install applications (or somethin like that, i
use a german system)

I'm getting an error msg (i'm translating, the msg is in german):

-------------------------------------------------------------
No access possible

This means a packetmanager (like apt-get oder aptitude) is already
running. Please close that process before.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Even after a restart, this does not change. I'm clueless ...
