help with root

Dear ubuntu people,

i successfully installed ubuntu on a Sony Vaio TX1HP. But during the
installation i did not make case on the aspect of root. I installed only
a user account.

Now, i see i need root authorities to install, for example, firefox
plugins ecc. ecc. Is there a standard login for root? I tried Username:
root pswd: <my pswd> but it did not work.

An advice would be nice, because it would be a pity to have to redo all
the installation procedure.
