Is it relatively safe to just copy and paste them whole from one wiki to the other, or is there a chance that language character set issues (or lack thereof) on my local laptop might munge them up in some way?

Our policy has tended to be to leave other languages well alone. Both
wikis are English language, so there is not much that can be done about
non-English material.

Thanks again for working on this!
