is there a "developer resources" page for third party developers?

Hi,

I have been using Ubuntu at my work for a year or so now and am quite
happy with it. I do some software development, and was able to ensure
that our latest software program runs on both Ubuntu and Windows. I
learnt enough about Debian packaging to be able to get my program
packaged into a deb, and it was enough for me to install my deb and
create an icon by hand to sit in my GNOME panel.

However, my boss has been saying that he wants to try out this Ubuntu OS
which I'm always using. So my deb package needs a bit of polish, mainly
just to get into the GNOME menu. I want to do this the Right Way, so if
we ever have customers using Ubuntu, we can give them the same package.

Is there a guide for non-Ubuntu developers who want to make packages
which integrate into the Ubuntu desktop? I found
<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DeveloperResources>, but that looks like it is
targeted at Ubuntu developers. Also, I would like to know the correct
way to integrate into the desktop. Something like Sun's
<http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/integrating_gnome.html>
would be a good start.

cheers,

John
