Wow. If this kind of dismissive attitude is common, how are *any* new ideas going to be considered? Seems to me to be an extremely unconstructive response! 

What happened to creative alternatives? I would have the thought the essential idea at the core of this suggestion was pretty sound: maybe it should be implemented differently - something along the lines of the KDE "First Run" druid? "Hello , click here to delve into the Mysteries of the Ubuntu Package Management Method!"

But hey, I'm just a drooling luser: pay no attention </rant>
