one url for website

Hi all,

sm: also: I think there should be one canonical (sic) url for the 
website, and others should always redirect there, to avoid confusion 
with urls, authentication, caching etc.

If there's no violent disagreement, I'll start to implement this where 
I'm able. It should help reduce unnecessary logins and inconsistent 
display of cached pages.
