Isn't this a storm in a teacup? Those users who know and prefer a
particular editor will install and use it anyway. Whether the guide
tells them to use nano will hardly matter - they will simply curl a
lip in derision, and use the editor that conforms to their religious
beliefs. :P

Well, not pico of course ;)  But then:

peter at prospero:~ $ ls -l `which pico`
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 9 2005-10-22 15:09 /usr/bin/pico -> /bin/nano
