I think this would be an excellent idea, much better then just a static page. Maybe other basic/light content management systems/groupware packages are also worth investigating, for live demos see: http://www.opensourcecms.com/ 

I've set up and worked with PHPNuke, Mambo, Limbo, Etomite, e107, Drupal as well as Wordpress and many others. I can also offer some help in setting up/maintaining this.
